Luxury Dubrovnik Holidays

Medieval walled town on the Adriatic

Dubrovnik is awash with well-preserved Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic architecture, hinting at the city’s complex, but nonetheless compelling, human history. The imposing stone walls that circle the Old Town are a big draw for sightseers, while diners and shoppers head to limestone-paved Stradun.

Found near the southern tip of Croatia's mainland, Dubrovnik has emphatically established itself on the European city break scene. The city has affectionately become known as the 'Croatian Athens' and the 'Pearl of the Adriatic'. The marble streets are made even more resplendent in the sun while the baroque architecture only adds to the city's charisma. With all its charm, it's little wonder that the city attracts almost a million visitors per year.

Great reasons to holiday in Dubrovnik

  • The history – Dubrovnik's streets are quite literally lined with history. Everywhere you turn you'll see a church or a ruin, some of which date back to the Roman period.
  • The beach – Just a short walk away from the Old Town is Banje Beach. Rent a kayak to get a view of the city from the waters of the Adriatic Sea or simply rent a lounger and get lost in a good book.
  • The weather – Because of its coastal location Dubrovnik profits from a Mediterranean climate. During the Summer months the temperatures hover around the mid twenties meaning the weather is warm but not stifling.
  • The cuisine – As you'd expect from a coastal city, Dubrovnik is a haven for seafood lovers. Mackerel, octopus and shellfish are all taken straight from the sea to your plate to ensure absolute freshness.

Things to do whilst on holiday in Dubrovnik

Take a ride with a view on the city's cable car. Dubrovnik's cable car system is found just north of the city walls. You'll be whisked up to the top of Mount Srd in only four minutes. From the observation deck 405 metres above the city, gaze out upon the red roofs of Dubrovnik, the island of Lokrum and the Elafiti Islands dotting the horizon.

Enjoy a stroll around the city's impressive walls. They were initially built in the 9th Century before the threat of Turkish invasion saw them fortified to up to 6 metres thick during the 15th Century. Nowadays a walk around the walls is considered to be one of the finest in the world and gives those who take it a unique vantage point from which to see the city and sea.

See the historical sites. No trip to Dubrovnik is complete without a visit to the Cathedral of the Assumption. Inside this wonderful example of Baroque architectures you'll find sumptuously adorned altars including St John Nepomuk's which is made of violet marble. The impressive Dominican Monastery & Museum meanwhile exhibits Gothic-Renaissance architecture and artworks.
