Helpful Tips to Know Before You Go

  • Some popular attractions in Hawaii, particularly those that involve the natural beauty of the islands, must be booked in advance to help protect their delicate ecosystems. Be sure to research activities ahead of time to check whether your desired sights need pre-booking; some must be booked 60 days or more ahead of time.
  • It is a legal requirement to use reef-safe suncream. The beautiful coral reefs and ocean life in Hawaii deserve your care – help protect these gorgeous islands by bringing sun protection products that are free from harmful chemicals. This can be bought locally in Hawaii, or you can pick up your own ahead of time.
  • It rains nearly every day in Hawaii – but not for long. These brief hour-long showers keep the islands in their perpetual state of lush beauty, and herald gorgeous rainbows as the water clears. If you're caught in a shower, don't worry: you won't have to wait long for the sun to come back.
  • Certain spectacular wildlife can only be seen at specific times of the year. If you wish to see humpback whales, the best time is from January to March.
  • In early mornings or up in the mountains, Hawaii can get quite chilly. Packing a jumper or jacket is advised. Meanwhile, for the beach, bringing a 'rash guard' (a light stretchy vest) is advised to help protect you from the strong sun while swimming, surfing, or snorkelling.
  • It is considered polite to tip any guides, resort staff, restaurant staff, and so on in Hawaii. It's a good idea to familiarise yourself with tipping etiquette before travelling and keep cash on hand.

Things to Do

  • Enjoy the ocean. Snorkel above coral reefs and marvel at the vibrant marine life, watch the stunning waters from shipboard, or take advantage of the incredible surfing opportunities that Hawaii is so famous for.
  • In particular, a snorkel tour of Molokini Crater makes for an incredible day trip. Stepping into the waters from black volcanic sands, you'll find yourself surrounded by vast shoals of tropical fish.
  • Sample local food. From the omnipresent 'shrimp trucks' that serve delicious prawns, to shaved ice treats and malasadas, there are so many delicious Hawaiian foods to enjoy. Taste the best of restaurants, cafés and food trucks alike.
  • Explore the culture. Watch a hula dance, embrace the caring and kind 'Malama' spirit, learn some local words, and immerse yourself in the welcoming Hawaii atmosphere.
  • Take a guided tour to Pearl Harbor, the historic site of the Japanese attack on 7th December 1941.  Visiting this national memorial on Oahu is not to be missed, and is best done on a half-day guided tour that will permit you to visit the Battleship Missouri Memorial as well.

Ports of Call & Places to Explore

Oahu

Oahu

Called the 'Heart of Hawaii', this island is not only the largest in the archipelago, but it is the most populous. Home to the capital city of Honolulu, the old and the new meld together into a bustling blend of cultures and traditions, with lively cities and laid-back surf towns alike ready for you to discover. This island is also home to Pearl Harbour National Memorial, a key place to see on your trip.

Maui

Maui

The second-largest Hawaiian island, Maui is called 'the Valley Isle', for good reason, boasting world-famous beaches and the sacred ÄŖao Valley from which it takes its title. In the winter, this is a fantastic place to see the humpback whales migrating, as well as take hikes along famous trails and roads that wind through some of the most beautiful places in the archipelago.

Island of Hawai'i

Island of Hawai'i

Standing as the largest of all the Hawaiian Islands, the 'Big Island' dwarfs the rest, being very nearly twice the size of every other island combined. Explore the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, walk along volcanic black sand beaches, enjoy authentic cultural experiences, or even zipline through the gorgeous scenery.

Kauai

Kauai

Dressed in verdant valleys and sharp mountain peaks, the island of Kauai deserves its title as 'the Garden Island', with sprawling tropical rainforests providing incredible beauty to this stunning landscape. See the island from sea or air, kayak along a river surrounded by greenery, check out the marine life below the waves, and visit the small laid-back island towns that embody the island's peaceful atmosphere.
