Things to do whilst on holiday in Pangkor

Whatever constitutes your ideal beach, you’re likely to find it on the islands of Pangkor. To avoid the crowds, head to Teluk Ketapang or Nipah Bay for very underrated beaches that have fantastic views of the Strait of Malacca and stay deserted even during the school holidays.

For some livelier beaches with food stalls and water-sports activities then Pantai Pasir Bogak is probably the most popular of Pangkor’s beaches. Here you’ll be able to rent canoes, go jet skiing, snorkelling and participate in a whole host of other popular water-sports.

At the foot of the Pangkor hill you’ll discover the Foo Lin Kong Temple. Here you’ll find a relatively new temple surrounded by beautiful gardens, lots of aquatic life in the various ponds and a miniature Great Wall of China, which is quite the novelty.

For an active day out why not trek in the Pangkor Forest Reserve. The hike is a wonder as you’ll witness monkeys swinging along on the overhead branches, beautiful flora and fauna and a plethora of colourful butterflies that are tame enough to land in the palm of your hand.

A trip to the Dutch Fort in the southern part of Pangkor will take you back over 300 years to a former Dutch stronghold against attacks from Malays and pirates. Nowadays you’ll find an interesting museum, a modern square and an original canon dating back to 1670 that the Dutch used during their occupation.
