Things to do in The Winelands

While the wine is obviously the draw that most lures travellers to the Winelands region, the area is home to some stunning sites of natural beauty. The Paarl Valley is breathtaking in its beauty and home to quaint, friendly towns that inspire total relaxation. As the thrid oldest town in South Africa, Paarl is also home to some fascinating history.

Wellington meanwhile is one of the Wineland’s most picturesque towns. Towered over by the the impressive snow-tipped peak of Wemmershoek, this town is famous for its olive and leather production. From here it is easy to drive the stunning Bain’s Kloof Pass which passes along 30km of mountainous scenery.

A trip to the Winelands would not be complete without a visit to Robertson. This place is known as the ‘Garden Town of the Boland’ and is known amongst oenophiles as an area that produces some of the World’s best wine.

Weather

Summers are hot and winter months cool and changeable, when snow can form on the higher ground. Summers enjoy very little rain, however the best time to visit is usually the autumn (March to May) when the days are warm but not sweltering and the vineyard slopes transform with wonderful shades of rust.
